The Best House Plants to Clean The Air

Use house plants to purify the air you breathe, beautify your space, and connect with nature!

How often do you think about the quality of the air you are breathing?  The quality of the air you breathe is a very important part of your health!  We all know that we can’t live without breathing, so why is it not something highlighted more when talking about health?  If you care about your health, chances are you are vey conscious about the foods you buy and purchase organic, unprocessed foods.  Foods raised grown with herbicides, pesticides, and antibiotics are all detrimental to our health and put a huge strain on our bodies to rid all the toxins ingested.

The same goes for the air you breathe.  If you are continually breathing polluted air, essentially, there is a steady stream of toxins entering your body that your body has to process.  This puts a huge strain on your detoxification system.  Really, I don’t know why this isn’t talked about more in the field of health!!  Our bodies are already bombarded by toxins on a daily basis, from the foods we eat, to the clothes we wear, to our beauty products, and everything in between.

If you want to clean up the air in your house, the best thing you can do is add air purifying house plants to your home and office.  It is relatively inexpensive, and will add so much natural beauty to your space!  I remember the very first house plant I bought – I had it in my bathroom and it was the first thing that greeted me every morning.  It brought me so much joy and happiness every morning!  Since then, I have added many more plants to my home, and it has kind of become an obsession 🙂

For optimal healthy indoor air, NASA recommends one plant for every 100 square feet in your home.  Now that may seem like a lot, you can start off small by adding 2 or 3 plants to your home.  Here is a list of the best air-filtering houseplants:

  1. Peace Lily

  2. Golden Pothos

  3. Snake Plant

  4. English Ivy

  5. Bamboo Palm

  6. Weeping Fig

  7. Boston Fern

  8. Spider Plant

  9. Chinese Evergreen

My favourite house plants from this list are the Peace Lily, Golden Pothos, and the English Ivy.  They are all very easy to care for, and are quite hardy if you don’t have a green thumb 🙂

My health tip of the week for you is add three house plants to your home this week!  Head out to your favourite greenhouse, or even Home Depot or your grocery store and add some green beauty to your home!  You will be amazed at how much it adds to your space!
